The History of the Florida Bar-B-Que Association
The First FBA Contest - Manchester, TN - October 5-6, 2001

More than one year after the founding meeting in Orlando, the FBA sanctioned its first contest. Oddly enough, it was quite a distance from Florida - Manchester, Tennessee to be exact. The Grand Champion was a local team from Tullahoma, TN - Cliff Weddington's "Oink, Cackle, and Moo." That's Cliff, wearing the green apron, in the photo to right sitting next to Joby Stanaland.

The contest, dubbed "The Coffee Cup Challenge", was organized by Michelle Reed and the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. FBA Reps Mary Jackson and Chuck Ray ran the event and both cook teams and judges from Florida made the trek north to compete and sample the barbecue.
