With the Palm Beach Gardens contest in the books, we can now look forward to Smokin' on the Suwannee BBQ Festival in Live Oak July 24-25. This is being held at the same site that some great music festivals are held, so it's sure to be fun. After that we have the hot and humid month of August off, giving everyone time to prepare for the annual Funcook the first weekend of September. If you haven't made your plans and reservations yet, please take a couple of minutes and do it now. We don't want anyone left out. For our newer members, remember that this is the best opportunity of the year for you to come out and get your feet wet - be it as a barbecue team or as a judge. That is a large part of the focus of the weekend, so please take advantage of it. Take a look at our website and you'll see something we have not seen in some time, which is an ever-growing list of candidates. I think it's great that more and more members are stepping up and volunteering their time and talents to help maintain the FBA's strength and healthy growth. Thanks to everyone who has put their name out there for consideration. Win or lose, you are appreciated. Also, we seemed to have "put the cart before the horse" regarding online voting. Seems we will need to amend our By-Laws first, and we are proposing that change at the annual meeting. Then if the membership votes it in, we will be voting online for the 2011 candidates. Thanks for bearing with us. As I mentioned last month, Ricky is accepting barbecue contest related photos for consideration on our website. Also if you are a member and are on a cook team, get your picture taken at a contest in front of your setup and send it to Ricky to be added on the teams' pages. Contest season is a little slow, but that sure doesn't mean that barbecuing needs to slow down. Our Nation's birthday - the 4th of July - as well as just good old summer time barbecues are great times to celebrate all that is good with our Country and our friends and families. Make sure to take the time to enjoy these all while keeping your cooking skills honed. That's it for this month. Stay cool, stay safe, and I hope to see you at a contest real soon. Rub
